How to stay in good shape after having baby-part 1- biceps

Exercising with our babies

I know how it feels to be young and have a baby. Your belly (and not just belly) grows like hell and instead of 60 cm around your waist you have easily 100 cm as I had and you can have much more :) Simply you feel like elephant. Heavy and funny :) …..Nothing against elephant, they are beautiful!

And who would like to stay after giving birth with belly skin big such as bag for 50Kg potatoes. I think that all of the mums would like to stay fit and beautiful. We like to feel good and in good shape!
That’s why I was thinking what to do to shape my body back even I did not have time to go to gym. I also did not have money to pay expensive sport trainer. And my free time shrunk into 2 times 30 min in the day when my darling fall asleep and than few hours over night. But who would like to be exercising after whole day of running around the kid. Practically nobody can have some energy left if you have baby as I do…………simply hyper active, constantly exploring and moving around the whole flat.

I started to think which exercises I can do within the day to shape myself nicely and let my son to enjoy with me. I practically “used” him instead of  weight. My daily training is very interactive and I am happy that my son can enjoy with me.

I hope that my exercises will be inspiration for you and believe me I will keep thinking and posting more exercises which I do with my son.

So because having strong hands is crucial in mums life I am sharing as first few exercises for strengthening your bicipital musculus.

10 month are here and new things came

10 month life story continue

jajajaj the life is game worth to play. And since Edie is very playful and big explorador we have reached through games another month. Within this month happened many things and because every change is worth to remember lets make the notes:

His length and weigth

  • we have two new teeth – he is although still chewing everything so strongly that sometimes I have to laugh. Look at him how he looks funny with all these things in his mouth :)

  • He is able to chew everything what is possible and sometimes even impossible. He is usually chewing table, his socks, his toes etc. I was afraid that with his first teeth he will start to bite me while feeding. But luckily he knows how to drink without pain for me. So well I am still feeding and I hope that I will hold on still some time.
  • We had about 2 weeks problem with feeding. He was not willing to eat other things that milk. He was eating just little and I was worried that he will not want to eat any more. But now we found his appetite again. I guess it was because he got fever from grandma. Also because his teeth are growing and it is bothering him.
  • Edie is crowling very fast now with more or less high stability while standing. He is able to walk around the table, to grab many things which are on the table. So we have to move most of the things out of his reach. He is able to crawl to the place where he hears my voice. And if he does not have people around or I disapear for a moment he start to cry or shout for me. It is enough to call him and he crawl to me.
  • He is saying clearly mama, meme – which used to use for hunger or thirst, or uncomfortable feelings. He is also reacting very clearly on music. He always get alert when I start to play guitar, xylophone or harmonica. I believe that he will have musical hearing or at least he will love music :) Another words are papa, baba (like babicka = grandma in czech)
  • Edie start to be very but very much pro mamy. We call it “mammythis” in the way that he is constantly looking for me, for mu hug, if strangers are around he tries to hide in my hug. If he is crying or sleepy I am nearly only person which can him calm down. Which on one hand makes me very tight to him and very non free of leaving home.
  • Recently he is not sleeping well too. He used to wake up every 1-2 hours. It makes it very demanding at night. We tried the test and Carlos mum tried to sleep in our room instead of us and calm him down when he woke up. We decreased his waking to 2-3 times per night. She also found out during the night waking up that he is very thirsty and needs to take a sip before he falls a sleep again. He was also not feeling me as a “milk bank” and “warm hug” and he slept much better. So I proved that he is very much feeling and sensing mammy.
  • His mothorical skills improved also. He is able to catch his cup and drink, he is able to place food to his mouth and also to grasp a  pen or stick to play a xylophone. He also found his “pie pie” his is touching him a lot especially after bathing when he is fresh and free without diaper.
  • He is also sharing with me a lot of things. He is waving to people. Our so call papaaaa and cao :) He tries to feed me with his food. He is giving us things and immediately taking them back :)
  • He also had his first barbeque time and had fun with our friends :)

Now a bit of pictures and movies from Eides life :)

Edie love to bite everything. Especially parts of his body :)

He improved also his motorical skills, look how he tries to write on the board.

Isn’t he already a big guy? I can not believe that he will be soon 1 year old. It is like yesterday when he was born?

How you would describe length of the year as single and as parent? Tell me how for you feels one year time?

How Edie got a new niece…..hmmm nice kitty

Jaguar daughter

It is such a great thing if the you have large family, because every member is bringing its unique value to the group. I got very excited about the animal world of our close friend, Carlos brother. “Tio Chocolate” Daniel. As I was writing in the last post he is veterinary and because he is specialist in different areas especially in the exotic animals there is not coincidence that he got among his patience young little jaguar.
Unfortunatelly this one had sad story because his mum died and now he is struggling with depression. And Daniel is healing him with homeopathy. That is the best cure pure love and nature! No chemicals!

Obviously who wound not be depressed and feel lonely if his mum would die. That’s why we decided to bring a bit of light and family feeling into her life and went visit Daniel who in the mean time became her adoptive mother.

Look how beautiful she is:

I wanted to hug my new relative also, but obviously she wanted to be only in the arms of “her mom” :)

Yeah instead of kisses I got few bloody scratches :) …nothing to do I have to practice more. Because she really needs love and love and love

3 month versus 3 years

Maternity leave

Have you ever thought how great opportunity have all mothers living in the Czech and Slovak Republic because they have maternity leave for 3 years compare to 3 month in Latin America?

I have been thinking how great social system we have that is able to support mothers and their angels and let us to influence development of our kids. Compare to the Latin America system where mother has to go to work immediately after 3 month pass. There is not such a support and if the father does not earn enough money to be able to support whole family then there is no other choice. I was also speaking with Carlos about that how gifted we are, because in our case it enables me to travel with him wherever for 3 years and no matter in which country I am or at which continent I am still financially supported. Although on the other hand I have seen many nice pre-schools over here which accepts babies since 4 month age and they have very nice development system for babies. BUT you have to PAY and if pay then a LOT. Education is not for free and good schools charges a lot.

I just wanted to make this post because many mothers in Czech they still complain that they do not get enough money, that state is not giving us enough to be able to support our family etc. And not so many of them is thinking actually how much is our social system giving us and our kids and how great full we should be.

I was also thinking why they do not have same system over here and after some time and few discussions with locals I found out that it is not possible . There is one simple reason for that. Try to imagine that countries which have natural birth rate (in Venezuela is counting about 20% and in Czech republic is about 8%)high would have strong social system. Then overpopulation would be issue not only for India and China but also for LA.

And as a rest all the best for the upcoming years. I have still 2 years and 2 month to go ahead so lets see what they will bring. But I am really happy that I will not miss even single day with my son.

Healing power of the sea or else Edie with his “medicine man- Tio Chocolate Daniel”

Day near by the sea side with “tio chaman”

Did you ever got prescribed by the doctor the medicine such as day spend at the sea side. If not then Edie is the lucky one because he got this great medicine by his uncle Daniel.
And how it happened? It is nothing new that also here in Venezuela is winter time. I know that probably most of you will not call 25 C over day and about 18 C over night as winter time but here people feel cold, are dressing jackets and sweaters and get sick. Unfortunately our mum got sick also and brought home nice cold and Edie as nice grand son got this cold also. Luckily he has the great advantage because his uncle is passionate veterinary and homeopathy healer and because we and other thousand his patience believe in his healing abilities we trusted his opinion. He prescribed one nice day near by the beach for Edie. He trust in the power of the salty water. And believe me or not Edie had lot of fun and his cold and running nose was healed within one day without using any chemicals.
So thank you very much dear uncle Daniel, our “medicine man”.

Look how much was Edie enjoying his day with his uncle…………..Edie love sand and his taste too. Daniel told us that if he eats sand than his imunoglobulin will increase which is good for his immunity system. So when he started to taste the sand I let him :) enjoy new taste :)

Washing clothes with Jabón Azul

Jabón Azul versus the Soap with deer (Mýdlo s jelenem)

You know how every mother tries to help its child as much as possible. So my mum is not any different. So before leaving Czech Republic she was pushing me to take with me our the most ordinary soup with picture of deer which actually was the best for washing any kind of food marks. It does not matter whether those spots were from food, or blood or grass or any other kind of dirt. This very simple soap proved by generations worked always and I did not have to buy any other expensive washing detergents such as vanish etc. It was always sufficient enough to prewash a bit the certain spot with this soap and dress was clean and without chemical touch.

And yeah mum was right again, Edies clothes started to be marked from different fruits, meat, his blood while he scratch himself and I was not able to wash out and clean these marks by ordinary washing. Here the washing machines usually use cold water and as I can see the washing detergent is not melted fully and that’s why the final effect is bad.

So in the end I just asked Carlos mum what she would advise me to use. And then she came with Jabón Azul the Blue Soap and my problem was solved. So even in the other side of the world they believe in the most basic products and their generation proved strength.

So deer or Azul? Does not matter both work great!

Baby food in Venezuela – general cooking

Salt over the gold

Salt! Some smart people say that salt is more than gold and even in one of the Czech fairytale the daughter of king proved that :)

But to make a point is. In my home land we are advised by paediatricians not to use salt and other spices which contains salt till the age of 1. Or make kids food saltier as long as possible. And it is logical. Because there is not that much heat and we need to keep our babies healthy. But ups here with the tropical weather we are under different conditions. Baby sweats as much as adults and sometimes even more, they need to retain the water and minerals in their bodies so the rule number 1 here is to put a little bit of salt into every dish I cook for Edie.

It is big difference but it has its reason.

Although I was surprised that other indications are the same. Such as:

  • do not give a fish to kids till 1 year of age
  • do not give them white from egg only yelk to 1 year of age. the white from egg might be cause of allergies
  • do not give infants any citric fruit till 1 year of age it can create allergies too
  • Also there are more different cheeses, they do have much more fresh cheeses which does not have to be suitable for kids because they contain more lactose. I had to try which one does not affect Eide and he likes its taste.
  • Paediatrician also advised me to do not use too often compotas (fruit in jar) it contains a lot of sugar and kids get too easily used to it.

What also surprised me that I was not able to find some night puree (we call it Kaše) with milk as part of formula. It is so common to find back in Czech puree either with or without milk. But here is tricky because kids are not supposed to have milk till the age of 1 in their food and drink it streight till the age of 2 so I am just wandering how the local mums cook…….. so lets see?

I wish you healthy salty life “0″

9 months and lost virginity (Jak jsem přišel o panictvi :0)

Edie and his 9 month life story

Today I am going to write about new improvements which Edie  did but before I have to share with you more about the title “lost virginity”.

Edie as most of the guys has common problem with his acrobystia. Since in the Czech Republic doctors are solving this issue much later, I let this topic go and was not bothered by that. But over here when we visited our new paediatrician for first time he immediately warn us that closed acrobystia can mean big issue for his future and as older he will become more painful can the opening of acrobystia (foreskin), So today he became big guy because after the application of anaesthesia cream by few soft movements of doctors hands he is not “virgin boy” any more :)

OK that was the entrance story but what is new in Edie’s life:

  • his weight and hight did not change he has still 8,1 Kg and 73 cm which is in one point alarming because he should have gained about 200 g but on the other hand I am not surprised because he is unbelievably active a. His day is full of playing, crawling and sweating.
  • He is eating almost everything he enjoys the most empanadas con carne mechada (local corn pancakes with shredded meat),also he likes local fruit, yoghurt, and everything what I am currently chewing or putting to my mouth.
  • He is still very social although he started to recognize much more who is his close person and he is very much tight to me as mum now. He can stay with strangers for some time but after the while he start to be impatient and  is asking for mumie.
  • Edie is fast like hell. I have hard time sometimes when we are crawling together to catch him up,. But on the other hand he is still looking for me when he crawls to far from me and can not see me. He is able to crawl up the stairs, when he is having hand support there is no problem for him to stand up. But so far he can not walk and keep standing for long time.
  • Exactly on the day when Oliver and Kadi (our friends from Estonia came to visit us)I found in his mouth 2 teeth. So I have two wishes in one time. These are no. 1 and 2 left down. They are cute and he is not biting me.
  • I am still breastfeeding although I can feel that i am loosing my milk. .Now I feel more just like natural pacifier and most of the food he is getting by spoon not anymore from milk.
  • He is constantly repeating words such as memme mammy, papapap and babaab. We are still beting which other language he will start to use.
  • He started to grasp things properly with his first finger in position against the rest of other fingers.
  • His association also developed. He start to imitate movements which he sees and and he is taking from my hand everything what I used just to see how the things works.
  • Now in Venezuela is time of dengue fever, water diarrhoea and different flues so we have to be careful because of mosquito. I love my son very much and I would not be happy to have him sick.
  • he got his 2 down teeth on 21.11.2009

Instead of picture gallery I decided to post few videos, depends how my darling will let me to post it here one by one:

1. playing and hunting mum

2. crawling test up the stairs

3. Edie and his favourite toy………there is nothing more exciting then mom’s shoe :)

Baby food in Venezuela – how to travel without pre-prepared jar vegetables

Story of one carrot in the jar :)

I would love to tell you that even I have been asking many questions before coming to Venezuela. I have never thought that something basic like is jar vegetables would be an issue here. So I have never asked whether there is something like that over here. And well surprise…. it took us very long time to found some jar food which would not be some type of fruit. When Carlos asked for first time in a big store whether they do have vegetables in jar for kids the lady looked at him in a way that he is asking for pickled alien or something weird like that. Just much later we realised that it is not common to have salty jar food for babies and you have to search a lot to find some. They import it from Spain…..foreign habits :) Here the mothers are used to cook only fresh food and also they have to work since the babies are about 3 month age so they let their angels in the preschool where they cook for them. They do not have much time to travel with their little once like I did with Edie and Carlos (2 days in a car is an issue for not fully breastfed baby like Edie was in his 8 month age)
For me it was a bit shock, because I was thinking how we will travel without having pre-prepared veggies like I was used to at home. But I realised that this is not big issue here. Wherever we stopped and asked in the restaurant they were very helpful and prepared simple fresh vegetable puree for Edie. And the problem was solved. Also later he started to get used to more flavours and different kind of food so now since he reached 9 month we have easier job.
What I have learned: Never expect that something so common in your home such as jar food available in your home country does not have to be common custom in another country. Always ask before leaving your home and arriving to the new land with different manners.
